He is one of 31 youngsters from Mangaluru who were stranded in Kuwait in January, 20 of whom managed to return in July after good Samaritans helped them by paying fines and sponsoring flight tickets. The offer was too tempting to resist for Varun, a BCom graduate who worked as a delivery agent with an e-commerce firm. He wanted to find greener pastures in energy-rich Kuwait and make a better life for himself and his family. All the youngsters landed in Kuwait in January 2019 after completing the required formalities. They went through an ordeal that lasted nearly seven months. The 20 youngsters who have returned to the country were lucky to be freed within two months of lodging complaints, officials at the Indian embassy in Kuwait said. It often takes between six months and two years for such complaints to be resolved, the officials said.
